At Southern Season, we understand that the right bottle of wine can elevate a meal to astonishing heights. This is but one of the myriad reasons we expanded to maintain a selection of over 4,000 wines. Additionally, we boast a vast beer selection representing more than 1,000 brews from both local (at last count the number craft breweries in North Carolina was over 80) and global breweries. Our passion for wine and beer is complemented by a wealth of knowledge and proficiency, and allows us to assist in your choice of the right bottle for any occasion, no matter your budget. We are confident our selections will please all, from novice to connoisseur.

We provide private on and off-site tastings as well as classes and seminars for any size group. Each month a case of wine and beer is dutifully selected by our in-house sommelier to offer our customers a tasteful swathe of our selection and is available for purchase or subscription. On Saturdays we offer premium tastings from select vendors and are poised to ship our wines worldwide.

Join us every Friday between 5 to 8 p.m. for a great way to start your weekend. Fridays Uncorked is a wine tasting event held in our Cooking School where you will enjoy a selection of wines guided by our passionate wine experts. Included are some selected food pairings, making it an all-around great way to expand your wine knowledge while mingling with friends. The themes for these gatherings range from international spotlights to specific varietals and characteristics and are priced accordingly.

Wine & Beer Tasting Bar

Customers can now discover their favorite new wine or beer in Southern Season’s newly opened Wine and Beer Tasting Bar. The Tasting Bar offers a broad selection of exquisite wines and draught beers hand-picked by our expert staff to delight enthusiasts and debunk hesitations. Southern Season has invested in a state-of-the art WineStation, which stores wine anaerobically at a specific temperature, affording customers the ability to sample rare and vintage wines that would otherwise require bottles and corking to retain taste and freshness. Finally, in addition to wine and beer, we are proud to offer fresh artisanal cheeses and charcuteries to bring your experience full circle.

Staff Picks

Guigal Saint Joseph, Northern Rhône – Retail $139.99
St.-Joseph Vignes de l’Hospice 2010. Robert Parker – 96 points, 625 cases made. Bold, with dark blackberry, warm linzer torte and fresh cassis aromas and flavors pumping along, lined with briary but integrated grip and backed by a long, charcoal-studded finish. A very impressive display of power and depth, without sacrificing definition. Best from 2015 through 2025. Only 6 bottles left!

Badia Corti Orvieto Classico Abboccato, Umbria, Italy – Retail $8.99
This refreshing white wine comes from the area around the hilltop town of Orvieto in the province of Umbria, Italy. Predominantly Trebbiano, with a little Malvasia Blanca this summer favorite has aromas of pear, green apple and white flowers. The “abboccato” in the name means the wine is just off-dry, giving a slight taste of honey in the finish. However, the Italian word “abbocare” means “to bite,” so this hint of sweetness is balanced by a bright crispness that leaves your mouth puckering for more.

El Cortijillo Tempranillo, La Mancha, Spain – Retail $8.99
El Cortijillo Tempranillo from La Mancha, Spain is made from 30-year-old-vine Tempranillo. It has up-front aromas of raspberry and cherry fruit. Medium to light weight with cherry fruit flavors, followed by bright acidity it is a pleasant and fun, bistro red. “Dark ruby. Red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by subtle pepper and spice. Juicy and seamless, offering plum raspberry and cherry flavors and good, straightforward appeal. Finishes smooth and spicy, leaving a bitter cherry note behind. Offers very good value, with a blend of energy and power that allows it to work with a wide variety of foods.”- Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (September 2012).

Chateau Miraval Rose, Var, Provence – Retail $28.99
From the estate in Var, Provence this is the inaugural release of the newly-purchased chateau by the Jolie/Pitt family.  “Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 rose from their Provence estate, Chateau Miraval.  In a blind tasting of a flight of Provencal roses at Wine Spectator’s New York office, the wine was refined and elegant with pure flavors of dried red berry and tangerine, and a focused finish with flint and spice notes. It scored 90 points.” – Wine Spectator.
